As a busy pet parent, it's often hard to find time to research healthy options for your dog, and when you do, there is so much conflicting information out there! I get it and am here to help you!
Hi, I am Jenya, a mama to 4 dogs, and a Canine Nutritionist (Cert. CN). For over 14 years, I have researched, studied, and cooked homemade food for my dogs. My passion led me to create Spunky Tails, aimed to help pet parents provide fresh and healthy food for their pets. My guidance is based on years of experience, many dogs, and backed by scientific research as well as alternative western and eastern methodologies.
In today's crazy world, one thing is clear - real, fresh food helps us (and our dogs) live longer, healthier lives. With so many conflicting resources and opinions about healthy dog food, knowing what is best can be confusing!
I help dog owners understand their dog's nutritional needs by providing research-based guidance and support as they transition their pet to a healthier diet. I can also point you towards the healing and preventative power of herbs and natural supplements that enhance your pet’s lifestyle.
What is my approach?
My approach is simple. I start by getting to know your lifestyle - what you and your family eat, and what you currently feed your pet. My goal is to help you adapt your pet's diet to what is already in your fridge, or help both of you make a transition to something healthier! Based on that, I make recommendations and coach you throughout the whole experience.
How will we communicate?
If you are local to Nashville, my guidance can take place in my home office, your home, at the grocery store, farmer's market, etc. For those not available for in-person meetings or who live too far away from Nashville, we chat via text messages, on the phone, on Skype, over email. Whatever works best for you!
Do I have to commit to switching to homemade dog food?
Every family is different. I have had clients who wanted to start slow, so learning about small steps they can take to make their dog's food healthier is what we focus on. In these cases, we work together to find homemade dog food alternatives, healthier treat options, fresh food toppers and more. These families usually require anywhere from 1-hour consultation to a 3-month package, depending on their needs.
Some clients are ready to go full speed and I am there to support that as well. We come up with a plan that works for their budget and eating habits, develop few recipe ideas, and monitor their pet's journey along the way. This type of work requires a 3-month or 6-month package.
Will my pet follow one strict recipe?
Only if you want to! There has been a lot of buzz in the pet food industry that makes pet owners believe that they need a Ph.D. to feed dogs real food. We encourage pet owners to follow the same approach that they do for themselves or their kids - basic nutritional knowledge, lots of fresh ingredients, and plenty of variety in their diets. Just like you wouldn't feed yourself or your kid one-specific doctor generated recipe, we think it's silly to do the same for your pet! By showing you the basics, we can enable you to provide the best nutritional care for your pet in your own kitchen.
What will I see when I start feeding my dog homemade food?
Better health for our pets starts with fresh, real food and you will see the difference quickly. More energy, shinier coat, improved allergy symptoms and fewer visits to the vet are just a few things you will start to notice with a homemade dog food diet.
How do I sign up?
I only accept 4 new clients max each month for the monthly coaching sessions. So, the first step is to select the package that best fits your needs. After you have purchased your package, you will get an email to schedule your first appointment and to fill out a questionnaire so I can get to know you and your pet better. If you have any questions about the process or which package fits you better, contact us: firstname.lastname@example.org
Why the name "Spunky Tails"?
It all started 14 years ago when my dog Charlie, a small and fluffy Maltese, started suffering from seizures at a very young age. Conventional medicine, particularly a drug called phenobarbital, made Charlie lose not only his hair but also his energy. I was frustrated. After some extensive research and help from a holistic vet, I became convinced that an alternative approach was the only way to save him. Through a combination of supplements and lifestyle changes, such as a homemade diet, Charlie's health improved, and his energy returned. For the last 12 years, Charlie has been seizure-free!
Spunky Tails was created to help pet owners transform their pets through a healthier diet, holistic alternatives, and solid, scientific-based advice.
